Afghan Haze

Afghan Haze is a sludgy stoner/doom band out of Connecticut fueled by “Booze, Weed and Satan”. The four piece consists of Jon Harrison (guitars), Jon Mylniec (vocals), Paul Litewka (drums), and Johnny Blacklung (bass).

The soundtrack to the harrowing nihilism of a world that watched as the promised Son of Man turned out to be a Manson.

Formed in 2018 by Drummer-Afghan Randall, Guitarist-Jon Harrison, Bassist-Erik Barrett and Vocalist-Jon Mlyniec.

2025 brings the release of a new full length, “Sermons of Filth and Disgust. “Heavy, plodding, groovy, sludgy” are all apt descriptors. Recently released and already rising on multiple Doom charts and playlists. Recorded and mixed at 1357 Recording Studio by Monte Arnstam (Folk Implosion), and mastered by Bill Henderson at Azimuth Mastering (In Flames).

They’ve shared multiple stages with such heavy legends as Crowbar, Cro-Mags, Goatwhore, Primitive Man and Exhorder

2019 saw the release of their first ep, “Burnt Offerings”. A slew of shows followed and as the tunings got lower the volume got higher. Full stacks at full volume going full throttle.

They released their debut album, “Nihilistic Stoner Hymns” at the beginning of 2021. The seven crushing tracks made up the perfect soundtrack to what appeared to be the end of days. “Burn the Goat” making many “best of” playlists for the year.

The world shut down but the band kept on. The lack of shows allowed Jon, Eric, Jon and Randy to write and record what would become the swan song for the original lineup, 2022’s “Hallucinations of a Heretic”. The tempos got quicker, the sludge got deeper and the transcendental passages brought new dynamics. Where the first album was a collection of great songs; the second album was unrelenting. A sonic wall that held you for the duration of the album.

Tragedy befell the group before the album’s release with Randall’s untimely passing.

Friends first, the members of Afghan Haze continued to work on music together unsure what the future would bring them.

Paul Litewka joined on the drums and the four piece was intact again.

More shows and more recordings transpired. 2024 brought a split ep with Purple Kong and a trip into the studio to record their third full length. Wrapping up the recording process in the late summer, tragedy again, Erik Barrett passed on August 19th, 2024.

Later that year, Johnny a mutual friend, joined on bass.

These records become more than a mere document of a time and place; they are testaments to the creative power of friendship and camaraderie. An eternal bond shared between friends as they capture a fleeting moment in time. Music as a memory and a portal between this world and the next.

August 6th, 2025 brought the release of the third full length “Sermons of Filth and Disgust”. (available on all streaming services and Bamdcamp)
